Ease of Use

Kick

Kick supports a resolution of 1980X1080. It offers basic emotes in chat and has low requirements for monetization. 

But it lacks advanced analytics tools. Their interface is simple but doesn’t include proper moderation or interactive features. 

While Kick supports multi-streaming, it does not include Twitch in its plan due to external policies. 

And despite stable internet connection, I've heard people complain that they have to reload their page frequently. Not only that, they have to unmute themselves after every 5 minutes or so. Don't know what's wrong but it automatically shuts off on a regular basis. 

Twitch

Twitch enables streaming at 1080p 60FPS. They have advanced tools like customizable channel points, bits, and VIP badges. 

Most streamers think they can get 2160p or 1440p, but the max resolution you can achieve is 1080p. This is because Twitch has set a limit on the streaming bitrate at 6K officially and 8K unofficially. 

As a streamer, you’ll find the “Creator Dashboard" quite useful. Its detailed analytics help you know your audience and manage your streams effectively. 

In addition to the dashboard, Twitch's chat system is also interactive. It includes a wide range of emotes, polls, moderation tools to keep the community engaged. 

Rumble

Just like Twitch, Rumble allows you to stream at 1080p 60 FPS. Officially, they allow you to have a max bit rate of 8K. So to some extent, you may be able to achieve 2160p or 1440p. 

With their aggregated live chat feature, you can have all your chats in one place. This makes it easier for you to connect with your entire audience through a single interface.

• Stream on 7 different days
• Have an average of 3 viewers

The platform's standard revenue split for subscriptions is 50/50. Not a great deal, right? Well, dedicated streamers can qualify for a 70/30 split through the Partner Plus Program. 

Even though the competition is fierce here, opportunities are endless. You can even promote your affiliate products and opt for brand sponsorships. 

Rumble 

Rumble focuses on maximizing your earnings with a 100% revenue share from subscriptions and 60% from ad revenue. 

The best thing about Rumble is it doesn’t have any minimum requirements for their creator revenue program. 

If high payouts are your priority, Rumble is your go-to option. 

With fewer creators than Twitch, it’s easier to stand out and grow your audience here.

Twitch

Rumble

As a creator, I suggest making Twitch your main platform for streaming because that’s where most people are. 

Your audience is your power - the more you have, the better it is. 

Regarding Rumble and Kick, I’d say it won’t hurt to publish the same content there as well. 

Sometimes, you can even divert your Twitch audience to Rumble to capture 100% of the revenue. The best part? You won’t have to worry about minimum creator requirements.

But in another Semrush report, it looks like Gumroad has over 30 million visitors. So apart from creators, it’s also about the visitors.

Medium has 100 million monthly active users. What’s even more interesting is this platform comes under top 100 websites in terms of traffic. 

Besides, they’re about to get 1 million paid subscribers soon. 

Now if we talk about Substack, it has 20 million monthly active users. Out of which, there are 2 million active paid subscriptions.

#2 - Author Section

Substack’s profile section is quite detailed. You can add a bio and several social media links here. In fact, you can even send an invite.

On Medium, there are just stories, an about section, and a header in your profile.

#3 - Platform’s Editor

Medium provides a simple editor for your content. You can add images, a few headings, and embed videos or custom codes. 

For a creative person like me, it’s extremely limited. 

On Substack, I can add headings, custom embed codes, buttons, link to a survey, audio, video, and much more. 

Basically, it has almost everything a writer needs for putting great content online.

#4 - Analytics

As much as I’ve understood about Medium, it looks like they like to keep it simple. In the stats section, you’ll find story and audience stats only.

On Substack, things are way way different. 

Look here, we can track total traffic, top traffic sources, emails, reader surveys, subscriber reports, and a few other things.

#5 - Profitability

Substack takes a 14% cut from your earnings. Does that sound a lot? Well, the top 10 users on Substack earn more than $25 million annually. 

Meanwhile, it’s tough to see who the top earners on Medium are. 

Luckily, I managed to find a few stories that show writers can earn anywhere from $30-$60K per month on Medium too. 

For instance, 4 years ago Clem Samson from The Haven once claimed in one of his Medium stories that he’s the most earning author, who is earning $30-$60K per month regularly.

Final Verdict

Being a writer, I’d suggest you should be active on both platforms. 

The more online presence you have, the more people will know about your ventures. 

Just in case you really have to make a choice, I’d say Substack is much better for those who want to start a newsletter. 

Those who want a simple platform to build a portfolio, Medium is enough.

Since the very beginning, Carrd is famous for having a no sign-up dashboard. 

You can simply head over the website, choose a starting point, and figure out how things work.

It took me 5 minutes to figure out the appearance related features, analytics, link insertion, and store setup. So just like Carrd, this one is easy.

If we take a look at Carrd’s template, I’d say there must be more than 50 templates.

Carrd integrates with Google Analytics. But for that, you need a Pro Standard plan. Just in case you don't know, let me tell you that Google Analytics is one of the best when it comes to getting stats. 

You can track location, real-time data, audience, and a lot more. To be honest, there's a learning curve to it. 

On Linktree, the free plan lets you track basic stats like views, clicks, and CTR.

#5 - Pricing 

The Pro Standard plan of the Carrd is quite good and gives you most of the features. In just $17 per year ($19 after a year), you can have a website ready. This excludes domain which might cost $5-10 per year. 

On the contrary, Linktree’s Pro plan costs you $9 per month.

Final Verdict 

Linktree is best for those who don’t mind paying an extra for their peace of mind.

After all, you can choose a template, add links, set up a store, and do a few more things without getting into the technical side of things. 

Carrd is much cheaper in price but provides a lot more features for you. From designing a website to having a lot of 3rd party integrations, you don’t know what might surprise you on it.
